Splendid church found in East Anchorage, boasting a rich history that seems to linger distantly in the past. Situated amongst a somewhat dilapidated residential area, the loyalty and reverence of the regular attendees, many of whom are now elderly, remain unwavering. The music resonates with a contemporary vibe, featuring beloved hymns seldom heard elsewhere. The off-the-cuff homilies exude a quaint charm, albeit with varying degrees of focus. However, the cantor stationed in front of the congregation tends to divert attention by engaging with her phone during the sermons—a behavior that may seem rather disrespectful towards the priests striving to captivate the audience.

Having paid multiple visits to this church and contemplating the idea of becoming a member, my recent experience at the Saturday Vigil made me reconsider this decision. Despite the lack of a warm reception—commonplace in many Catholic churches in Anchorage—I couldn't shake off a peculiar encounter with a priest. After mentioning that I currently belong to the Holy Family Cathedral, the priest jokingly remarked that he would "pray for me," followed by a chuckle and a quick departure. This behavior left me puzzled, as it seemed like some form of inside jest among the clergy. The priest appeared unaware of my longstanding affiliation with the Cathedral or my personal journey as a Christian.

I extend my gratitude to all those dedicated individuals working tirelessly for the community within this church. Your welcoming spirit shines through, despite the challenges that may contribute to the dwindling attendance at mass.
