I had an unreal experience and already made a booking to return!
Eugene Watson (8/8/25, 9:22 AM):
I recently embarked on a trip along the Kasilof River with our skipper Matt. It was an extraordinary experience right from the get-go. Securing the booking was a breeze, and the proprietor was truly genuine and delightful over the phone. We had snagged the charter through KTUU, which turned out to be a fantastic deal! Our guide Matt was exceptional! He was well-versed in all the prime locations along the river and made sure to switch up our bait regularly. The amount of effort he put into rowing to keep us in those prime spots was truly commendable! This was by far the finest charter experience I've ever had! I wholeheartedly endorse Fishology!
Jennifer Kelly (8/5/25, 11:09 AM):
Fishing with Fishology was an absolute cracker during our Alaskan adventure! Top blokes with heaps of know-how, and we always have a ripper of a time out on the water!
Susan Morales (8/3/25, 6:11 AM):
I'm making me way back, Mark, and Charley is joining me this time. It's gonna be a proper showdown, mate!
Roger Martinez (8/1/25, 2:27 PM):
I had the pleasure of going fishing with these chaps during the summer of 2022, and I must say, it was quite the extraordinary experience. The guides were not only welcoming and full of knowledge, but they also led us straight to where the fish were biting. The views were absolutely breathtaking, and those fishing days were some of the finest I've ever had, along with my group of 8 mates. I wholeheartedly recommend them. We all ended up taking home our fair share of fish. Cheers!
Paul Hughes (7/29/25, 8:09 PM):
I rang up for a spot on the boat at the eleventh hour, and they managed to squeeze me in and provide an unforgettable experience. Our guides, Parker and Chase, were absolutely top-notch. They were not only skilled in fishing techniques, but also provided excellent service with a smile, and had an impressive knowledge of both the salmon and the area. Despite being relatively new to guiding, Parker exhibited a passion and proficiency that is bound to lead to success - mark my words! We ended the day with a whopping 28lbs of sockeye that we shipped back home. If you're looking to book a fishing charter, I highly recommend Fishology and specifically requesting either Chase or Parker as your guides!

I do declare, typically reviews are penned post-trip, but I felt compelled to impart my experience with Fishology/Orca and the esteemed Mark Wackler.
I've bombarded Mark with myriad queries regarding our upcoming jaunt this July. This voyage marks a "Bucket List" escapade for me as I'm about to hit the big 6-0 tomorrow, and being a denizen of the east coast, chances are slim I'll venture back there again. Joining me on this odyssey are seven of my college cronies, along with my brother and his lad. Hence, I yearn for this to be an indelible journey of a lifetime. Mark has exhibited unparalleled patience and meticulousness in swiftly addressing all my inquiries. From angling gear to tailoring our guided escapades, I am assured no stone has been left unturned. If you're contemplating booking a sojourn here, rest assured you'll receive the pertinent intel and professionalism you seek.
David Simmons (7/25/25, 10:03 AM):
We went fishing with Greg Springer this week and had an absolutely brilliant time. It was our first time salmon fishing, and he was so helpful and knowledgeable about the fish and different spots in the river. We were chuckling all day thanks to his great sense of humor!
Bobby Mitchell (7/24/25, 3:21 AM):
I do not commonly leave negative feedback, but I feel compelled to do so on this occasion. I meticulously planned my Alaskan fishing trip for over a year. Being new to the experience, I conducted extensive research. I talked to several guides, read reviews, and sought recommendations from other vendors in the area. That's when I opted for Mark with Fishology. I personally spoke to Mark, arranged the trip, paid in full, and exchanged numerous emails about the excursion. All of this was settled last November for a trip in August. I interacted with Mark throughout. The evening before our planned outing, I emailed to confirm the meeting time and place. I got a response stating that my guide would be Ryan and to meet at 5:30. Who is Ryan, I wondered. I believed I had booked Mark - the person I had been corresponding with for nine months. When I questioned Ryan, he explained he was a contract guide that other guides sub-contracted when they were unavailable. He mentioned being part of a group of guides who made similar arrangements. I had booked and paid in full months prior, and if Mark was unavailable, he should not have taken my booking. I was displeased to be passed on to someone else when I had specifically booked Mark. The Fishology website has a dedicated section introducing the guides, including a bio of Mark. I inquired if Ryan would be my guide the following day, and he informed me that it would be another guide, though he wasn't sure who. I won't delve into Ryan's performance here, but let's just say that at 10 am that morning, I messaged Fishology requesting to switch to sockeye fishing the next day instead of spending hours waiting for a silver to bite. The subsequent day, I was redirected to another guide company, Kenai Cowboys. I have only positive feedback about my time with them and their guide. Nevertheless, I was unsettled by my experience with booking Fishology and Mark well in advance, only to end up with a contract guide and a different company altogether. If you are contemplating booking with Fishology, you may want to explore other options, unless you wish to be passed around without clarity. I found Fishology's customer service to be inadequate. I plan to return next year to fish once more, and I will be making my reservation with Kenai Cowboys.
Judith Rivera (7/19/25, 11:57 PM):
We 'ad a brilliant time fishin' with Garett this summer. 'E was patient, funny, and a top-notch teacher. 'E took us to the finest spots to ensure we caught some salmon. We 'ad plenty to take 'ome. They were dead easy to book as well. Cheers for a fantastic time!
Ann Green (7/16/25, 11:55 PM):
Having had a day of deep-sea fishing canceled by another skipper, Mark managed to fit in my old man, me brother, and meself for a last-minute trip on the Kenai. We 'ad a cracking time and pulled in more fish than we ever dreamed of. Mark's a proper professional, good laugh, and knows 'is stuff about the river and local area. Top bloke, would recommend 'im highly!
Janice Robinson (7/8/25, 3:41 AM):
Outstanding Adventure! Fishology is the real deal when it comes to fishing charters in the Kenai region. The crew is top-notch - professional, friendly, and always ready to lend a hand. We've had the pleasure of going out with them twice already and can't wait for our third trip!
Sandra Coleman (7/5/25, 7:53 AM):
Just back from a fantastic fishing expedition on the Kenai Peninsula, mate! I spent a good 10 months scheming and plotting this adventure, scouring the land high and low for the right captain. After much deliberation, I placed my trust in Mark Wackler (The Chief of Fishology) and let me tell you, it was a smashing choice! Not only is he a top-notch fishing guru, but he also goes above and beyond to ensure you have a whale of a time throughout your journey.
From the get-go of crafting this escapade, Mark was on the ball with swift responses, doling out cracking advice on must-see spots, things to do, and provided expert local knowledge at every twist and turn. The bloke truly went the extra mile during the planning stage and continued to impress during the trip itself. Even when the fish seemed to be playing hard to get in the waters of Kasilof and Kenai for a few days, Mark doubled down and worked his socks off to track them down – and track them down we did!
Mark is a legendary guide who knows his onions and takes care of you every step of the journey – like giving us a bell as we made our way into town just to check if we needed directions to the lodge or anything else. I'm already scheming my return for next summer, and you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be booking through Mark and Fishology again. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better guide up there, mate!
Karen Ramirez (7/3/25, 10:01 AM):
I 'ad the chance to go fishin' wif Mark and Fishology once, and I tell ya, it won't be the last time, mate! Mark is a top bloke, very knowledgeable, professional, and he really cares about 'is clients. I've guided meself up in the Northern Rockies for fly fishin', huntin' mule deer and elk, and let me tell ya, it's a lo' of work that often goes unnoticed. Mark really puts in the extra effort to make sure our day on the Kenai was a success. Hats off to 'im!
Jesse Gutierrez (6/29/25, 6:32 AM):
We managed to catch our limit of sockeye salmon with the help of our guide, Cory. He was a top-notch guide and made our fishing trip in Alaska truly unforgettable. The journey was definitely worth the travel!
Kevin Graham (6/27/25, 1:51 PM):
These blokes will hook you up with some proper fish - definitely worth a go, mate.
Elizabeth Perry (6/24/25, 1:34 AM):
I was on the hunt for a lovely fishing adventure to celebrate my 30th anniversary with the missus. Orca Lodge turned out to be just the ticket, and the fishing was absolutely top-notch.
Doris Miller (6/22/25, 9:05 AM):
My spouse and I had the pleasure of crossing paths with Mark during the summer of 2013. Mark and his crew expertly catered to our church group, which consisted of both youths and adults, many of whom had never experienced the thrill of fishing before. On our return journey to Anchorage before heading home, my partner was already busy on her iPad outlining our itinerary for the following summer in 2014. Since then, we have revisited Alaska, specifically the stunning Kenai Peninsula, a total of seven times out of the subsequent eight summers, either with our relatives, extended family, or just the two of us. When it comes to planning a trip, Mark and his team are our first point of contact. I never schedule time off work or secure flights and accommodations until I am certain about the availability of dates with Mark and his exceptional crew. Their services are simply superb!
Andrea Kim (6/21/25, 4:24 AM):
Outstanding bang for your buck, spotless and tidy cabins, and absolutely fantastic fishing. I've relied solely on Fishology for organizing my yearly Alaskan fishing adventure. I typically stay for a week and have done so for the last 4-5 years. Our main catches are halibut, sockeye, and king salmon. I highly suggest trying out fly-out salmon fishing, it's truly memorable. Booking fishing trips is a breeze, top-notch customer service, and cabins situated right along the Kenai River in Soldatna - what more could one ask for!
Sarah James (6/21/25, 12:52 AM):
We had an absolutely brilliant day out on the water fishing with Wyatt, one of the fantastic fishing guides from Mark's crew. We kicked off our day bright and early at 4 am, launching onto the river, and ended up reeling in some impressive king salmons, making for an adventure that will stay with me forever. Huge thanks to the team for such an incredible experience!
